Isle of Man Meats has appointed Jan Riley as Technical Assistant.
Jan has over 30 years’ experience working in several sectors of the food industry; mainly in the shellfish industry.
As Technical Assistant, her responsibilities – in addition to technical tasks – include supporting Isle of Man Meats’ Compliance Manager Colin Pilkington to ensure that the business adheres to industry standards and continues to secure industry recognised accreditations. Isle of Man Meats has BRC Global Food Standards’ Grade A accreditation, and is a Red Tractor approved meat processor. The business is also a UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man Partner, and approved to use ‘Product of Isle of Man’ provenance labels which are part of DEFA’s Food Matters strategy.
Jan has a number of qualifications that are recognised within the food sector both on and off-island, including HACCP for food manufacturing, an Internal Auditing Certificate, SALSA HACCP Certificate, and a Supervising Food Safety in Manufacturing qualification. An important part of her role will be to ensure that Isle of Man Meat’s high standards of hygiene and food safety are maintained.
Commenting on her appointment, she said: “I am excited to join a long-established, industry accredited, Manx company which supports local farmers. I feel extremely fortunate to live on this beautiful and bountiful island and believe it is of the utmost importance to respect and protect our agricultural heritage. As consumer demand increases both on and off-island, I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Phil Parsons, Plant Director at Isle of Man Meats, welcomed Jan’s appointment and added: “Jan has a wealth of industry experience and qualifications, and shares Isle of Man Meats’ passion and commitment to meeting the highest industry standards, producing high quality products, and supporting our fantastic producers, retail partners and customers. Jan is the latest in number of recent additions to our team, and the fact that we continue to recruit professional people of such a high calibre - in a very competitive employment market - is another vote of confidence in the business.”
